gawk software package provides GNU awk, a pattern scanning and processing language, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gawk
gawk is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gawk package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gawk *
You will get with gawk package name, version, architecture and description in a table
